We made it to O'Cebreiro today. It is a hard climb through beautiful country...first small towns, then woods, then alpine.
We left Villafranca in 40 degree sunshine. What a day! Looking back down the valley at rhe town was spectacular.
Despite blisters for me and James, and sore muscles from the trek down from Cruz de Ferro two days ago, we loved today. We walked through the Valcarce River valley to this quaint old town of Ambesmestas. Thanks to the recommendation of Dawn and Craig we have a great room for 45 euros. Now to stretch and massage our legs into readiness for tomorrow's climb. 8.5 miles to O'Cebreiro. Today we are in Villafranca. Our legs are sore from yesterday's downhill walk. But the sun is bright and temperature has climbed into the 60s so we are loving it.
This is a quaint, medieval place. The bridge I'll post is a Roman one from yesterday in Molinaseca. After we left our stones, holding our burden, on the pile at Cruz de Ferro, we had another hard and gorgeous walk. This time, it was 13 miles steeply downhill. Fantastic scenery.
The weather continued to be cold and windy on Day 2 of walking...to Foncebadon. The 11 miles uphill about killed all four of us, but we made it. It was a really hard day. And when we arrived, it snowed!
Then, on to Santa Catalina...our first day of walking...about 7 miles. It was very cold but happily it did not rain. But the wind was so strong weI had to wear sun glasses to stop the tears from streaming. We had bought hats and gloves in Astorga and were really glad.
