In Porto

On Wednesday we took the train to Porto, found our lodging (the very nice Hostal Porto Lounge), and settled in for our day and a half stay. In the evening we stumbled in to the Majestic Cafe.

We had a nice meal, and later we learned it is "must" visit, so we started out lucky.

Today we've been touring the city, trying to take it easy in preparation for beginning to walk tomorrow. Temperatures in the steamy mid-eighties are expected, but are expected to cool off next week.

Karen, we are glad to hear they are good. We are both using only our iPhone cameras. Leaving the regular cameras at home saved almost a pound, counting the chargers. Looking at the pix only on the small screen, we can't tell if they are in good focus :)

This hostel is great. We have a lovely room, albeit a fifth floor walk-up. We are sitting here with both French doors open, a cool breeze, no bugs, stars coming out, having a glass of local port wine. Earlier we went to Happy Hour and had port for .75 euros a glass.

We are looking forward to the first walk on the trail tomorrow. We expect to spend a more austere evening. . . In a monastery in bunk beds. But we hear it is a fantastic place.
